Private sponsoring for refugies
CICAN is pleased to announce the official launch of its Project. Private Sponsorship of Refugees (PSR), an initiative supported by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) as part of the program "Support for Francophone minority communities participating in refugee sponsorship in Ontario".
This three-year project (2025–2028) aims to raise awareness, encourage, train, and support members of Francophone communities to actively engage in the private sponsorship of refugees.
To who is the project for?
This project is aimed at:
- For person wishing to form a group of 5 pour parrainer des réfugiés, qu’il s’agisse d’individus ou de familles ;
- To the religious organizations, non-profit organizations or community groups eager to become community responders or to sign an sponsorship agreement avec IRCC.

Our goals
- Mobilize Francophone communities to better promote private sponsorship of refugees.
- Train and guide interested individuals so that they acquire the essential knowledge and skills to become sponsors.
- Strengthening community ties through events, workshops and awareness-raising campaigns in partnership with various local organisations.
- Expand the network of mentors, especially in communities where this program is still not well known.
- Supporting the independence of mentors by helping them better understand the process, avoid administrative errors, and succeed in their commitment.
- Diversify the profiles of mentors for a more complementary, synergistic, and robust approach.
